Assemble & Launch: A Water Rocket Workshop & Competition

It's already summer time! By now, I'm sure most of the mommies are already busy looking and searching for summer activities to enroll their little ones. Choosing what particular summer course would depend on the interest of the child and are usually topics not taught in school. Aside from that, it's also the best time to bring your kids for an educational trip such as a science museum to reinforce what they have learned in school.

Speaking of science museum, have you visited Philippine Science Centrum lately? Please click here to read more about this interesting place.

If you haven't, now is your chance because this coming May 16-17, 2014, they will be conducting an exciting summer activity dubbed as Assemble & Launch: A water rocket workshop and competition. It's a two-day event aimed to promote interest on Space Science and Physics as well as provide an alternative educational activity for children ages 10 to 16 years old.

Participants in teams of two (2) will be given a workshop on how to make a PET bottle rocket (1.5 L), assemble their own rockets and compete with other teams on accuracy of their work. Prizes await the winners.

Get Hooked on DIY: A Home Decorating Workshop

Every mother loves to keep their house neat, organized and clutter-free.

Here are some of the reasons why being organized is important based on my personal experience:
  • It saves time and energy because you can easily locate the things you need to use.
  • It saves money because you are able to fully utilize/consume the things you have on hand without buying for the second time.
  • It clears the mind and in turn makes you more productive at work.
  • It makes your home a childproof and hazard-free one.
  • It makes a happy family because everything is in harmony.
  • It beautifies your surrounding which makes it a visitor-friendly and relaxing place for everyone.
And if you agree on any of the above reasons, then I'm sure you will be excited for this good news!

Good Housekeeping Magazine, in cooperation with 3M Philippines,
invites you to
Get Hooked on D.I.Y.

A series of home decorating and organization workshops that will help you decorate and organize your home space using a simple and effective wall-hanging tool.

As a home and décor expert, Good Housekeeping will show mommies, daddies, and even college dormers and singles how to tidy up and beautify their homes, condominiums, or dormitory rooms using Command™ Damage-Free Hanging Solutions from 3M. These hooks are very easy to install, and equally easy to remove without leaving a trace. So when you need some wall-hanging done at home, just look for 3M's Command™. No need to make holes with a nail or a drill because not only are they expensive, it even ruins the paint job, plus you need someone else to do it for you.

So what are you waiting for? Let's go and have fun learning about the various ways on how you can use Command™ Hooks and products in your surrounding.

Event Details:

Date: April 13, 2014 (Sunday)

Art Lab 2014: Summer Art & Science Workshop

I must admit that science is my least favorite subject when I was still in school. My parents weren't able to spark my interest and curiosity. Although every summer break, they would enroll me to summer classes such as Abacus class, Chinese calligraphy class to name a few, just to keep me busy and productive. Sad to say, those topics were not of my line of interest but only because the choices of summer classes that time were still so limited. And that was more than 10 years ago!

Times have changed in this 21st century age where lots of interesting and fun workshops have been made available everywhere. It's just a matter of choosing which topic your child is interested to learn. As a first time mom, I can't wait to enroll my child to summer workshops to expose her to different aspects of life and hone her to become a well-rounded person.

This summer 2014, Hobbes and Landes, in partnership with TASK (The Art School for Kids), is holding a workshop entitled Art Lab where art materials and techniques will be used to perform science experiments and make it into an art work. It's basically science and arts rolled into one workshop. Let me explain to you more about the details of this workshop through Q&A.

1. What is the age range of students that can enroll?
  • The Art Lab workshop is for students aged 4 to 12 years old.

2. What is the workshop schedule for 2014?
  • The workshop is held every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (MWF) for two hours from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.
  • There are two rounds of classes with ten sessions each.
  • One in April (7, 9, 11, 14, 16, 21, 23, 25, 28, 30) and
  • One in May (7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, 23, 26, 28).

3. How much is the Art Lab workshop fee?
  • Workshop fee is P5,700 inclusive of all materials for all ten (10) sessions.
  • For walk-in participants, it's P750 per session.

4. Where will the workshop be held?
  • Workshop will only be held at Hobbes and Landes in Bonifacio High Street.

5. Where and until when can we register?
  • You may register at the following branches of Hobbes and Landes: Bonifacio High Street, Greenbelt 5, Rockwell Power Plant and Greenhills Promenade.
  • Accepting of enrollees is only until March 31, 2014
  • Late enrollees will be accommodated as long as there are still slots available.

6. What kind of materials will be used?
  • Basic art materials will be used such as art papers, crayons, paint, glitters, clay. Household materials will also be used. In case it involves materials that is unfamiliar to the children, the teachers will guide them and ensure proper safety in handling the materials.

7. Who will conduct the workshop?
  •  There are three (3) teachers per class and they are all graduates of Art courses from the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.

8. How many students are there per class?
  • A maximum of 12 students will be accommodated per class to ensure the right number of students.

9. What are some of the activities that we can expect from the workshop?
  • Food Dye Color Wheel
  • Chromatography for Kids
  • Master Sculptor
  • Create a Tornado
  • Make your own Fossil
  • Melting Hearts Art
  • How to make a Glow in the Dark Slime
  • Kaleidoscope
  • Magnetic Silly Putty
  • Mason Jar Terrarium

How cool is that! Too bad, I still need to wait a few more years before my toddler is eligible to enroll in this workshop. I really hope that my child would appreciate science as much my hubby is so passionate about it. I'm pretty sure that anyone enrolled in this workshop would eventually realize that there's so much fun with science.

If you haven't been to Hobbes and Landes, let me give you a quick tour through this link.

All About Breastfeeding Workshop + Giveaway

As soon as you become pregnant, breastfeeding will be one of the regular discussions that you will be bringing up with your family, doctors and even on casual conversations with your mommy friends. Why? Because during our parents' time, breastfeeding was not the norm and until now I can still hear some naysayers about the challenges and unsuccessful stories on one's breastfeeding journey which might dishearten a first-time mom's capacity to breastfeed her child.

In order to ensure a smooth and doubt-free path to breastfeeding, I highly encourage one to attend workshops that could explain how breastfeeding works. This skill is not something innate to all women but rather takes a lot of determination, commitment and time to master the art of breastfeeding.

Here's an upcoming workshop on March 22 by Manila Workshops entitled All About Breastfeeding, part of the First Time Parents series of workshops. I hope you could take some time out and enrich yourself with knowledge about breastfeeding. I swear, you'll be amazed at how beautiful, natural and magical breastfeeding is. It's one of the best gifts that God has bestowed to us women that's why we must make good use of it.

Toddler Care, Basic First Aid, Dental Care Workshop + Giveaway

Looking back, I missed those days when baby was still a newborn, always cuddled in my arms breastfeeding round the clock. Without noticing it, a year had already passed by and my baby has now transitioned from infancy to toddlerhood stage. Being a proactive mom, it is my duty to keep abreast of my child's growth and check on her milestones. Since then, I have attended quite a number of workshops already and still constantly on the look-out for more knowledge. Thankfully Manila Workshops has designed a series of workshops called First Time Parents where essential topics on parenting are being discussed.

ZaLor Massage Services + Giveaway

I was very fortunate to have interviewed one of the partners behind a humble but promising massage service specializing in maternity, ZaLor Massage Services. I came to know them last year when I tried their lactation massage by Nanay Lorena. I actually didn't thought of having the need to get a lactation massage because I was already so blessed to have enough milk supply for my baby. But because of the complimentary massage service that I've won from the giveaway of TSN + Zalor + Babypalooza that I was able to try it.

Here's my first massage by Nanay Lorena, photo taken last March 3, 2013. Baby was still 3 months old that time.

Believe it or not, it was actually my first time to try a lactation massage. Anyway, my experience was that during the time that Nanay Lorena was massaging my breast already, my milk was continuously flowing and becoming messy that I felt kind of embarrassed. But it was a sign of an abundant milk supply and I was also relieved to know that I didn't have any plugged ducts during the massage. Aside from the relaxing massage experience, it was never a dull moment chatting with Nanay Lorena as she openly shares her interesting life stories and wisdom in this field of service. Optimism, humility and selflessness are the traits that I admire most from her.

Baby Massage

Let me share with you more about Zalor Massage Service through the interview I had with Nanay Lorena (NL). I took the liberty to translate her answer from Tagalog to English.
